Moving to Georgia forced me out of my comfort zone.
That doesn’t go for just in life, but at work — as I’ve mentioned before.
Recently my bosses wanted to see how I handled the responsibility of designing the A section. Yes, the front page and all of that good stuff.
Was I nervous? I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t. Mainly because it was new.
Once I got down to it, design is design. Other than a few stylistic things, the goal is to make it pop and captivate a reader’s attention at first glance.
When I walked down the street today and saw my design front and center in a rack, it gave me an incredible sense of pride.
Newspapers, as I stated in my farewell column for the San Marcos Daily Record, are humbling. Here are my words from back in July 2014.
Journalism, at its core, is an incredibly humbling profession.
It puts you in your place. You either cut it or you don’t.
There are few careers where you get a performance review each and every day you work. You can’t escape the printed word or your relationships.
I love expanding my skill set and appreciate more responsibility at work. From what I can tell, the pages turned out well. You be the judge.
