When I moved to Georgia, I knew the days of my byline appearing daily in the newspaper were gone — at least for time being. That was no longer my job.

Once you’re bitten by the writing bug, like I was at a very young age (but more on that later), it’s impossible to go back to a non-prose life. Melodramatic? Sure. Yet there is just some incredible feeling associated with eloquently piecing together words, whether or not it’s behind a byline.

That’s one of the reasons I renewed this domain and more so the reason why I asked if I could write sidebars from Georgia Bulldog athletic events. Maybe it could turn into gamers or features down the road, but I wanted to start somewhere.

I can’t begin to describe how excited I was to get back in the groove of game coverage. To sit on press row. To meet other media members. To dissect a game. To interview again. To write on an incredibly tight deadline. Oh, the deadline!

The more I write sidebars (probably have penned four or five as of now for the Banner-Herald), the more I appreciate the art of them. The job of the sidebar isn’t to get the “what” across, it’s to describe the “how” and “why.”

Here are a few of the sidebars I’ve done so far.
